Beta Two June 29, 2006
Moving house sucks, especially when you do it twice within a couple of months. Right now I’m sitting at home typing this on my laptop which is connected to the internet via dial-up (!) as the DSL has yet to be connected here (Monday, so they say, but we’ll see).
Anyways, I’ve been using the time I haven’t been online (or been moving) to finish off what I’ve been doing with Beta 2 of Squible. I’m sure you probably thought things had stagnated with the theme, but I’ve been busying myself with fun new features like widget support to replace the element subsystem I built for Beta 1. Typical isn’t it - once you’re starting work on a system like elements, a much better implementation arrives.
There’s also been a fair bit of code cleanup and the like performed on the theme, which should make things run better and cleaner, and also make things somewhat easier to modify and configure. You’ll notice the configuration page in the administration panel has changed somewhat too.
Please note though that because of changes I made to the code, Beta 2 WILL erase any Squible configuration settings for previous versions and reset them to the defaults, so make sure you note down your old settings first if you’re upgrading.
Release Notes for Beta 2 are available at the Wiki. Support is, as always, available at the discussion forums.

I don’t see how to configure the del.icio.us user name or the Flickr account. Also, how did you add the author info? Finally, is there a last.fm widget?

In the Sidebar Widgets page, click the little icon to the right of the widget you want to configure, and a window will pop up with its options.
Author info, as in “posted by”? Should be an option for that in the Squible options page.
Last.fm widget is being worked on - I had some problems with porting it which I’m cleaning up, so expect to see it soon. I wanted to get Beta 2 out there since it’s taken so long to get out.
And lastly, yes, it should be running Beta 2, and it will be soon, once I’ve got time/bandwidth to upload it to the site.

Is this a bug of beta two?
I couldn’t get the widgets show up on the front page. I find that the inc.php calls the function ‘dynamic_sidebar’ with a string parameter but in widgets.php it uses the parameter as a number.

I would like to test Ajax commenting?
Can it be that the flickr widget has a bug? I can’t configure is properly, because after clicking the icon in the widget the pop-up doesn’t show anything like a login and password. The same problem appears (partly) on the del.icio.us widget.

I love your theme but I am getting a little tired to wait until you releave the non beta version. I wanted to use this theme for my site but I am frustrated that you can’t post a comment on a blog post when I install your beta. What’s the point it becomes a harsle to get people to comment on your post? Shouldn’t this be the first bug priority?

I am so frustrated with this Squible.
I downloaded this and I can’t even customize it. Other than cuztomizing the theme I don’t know how to add the tags and fill the other portions of the site. This is so frustrating. When I go to the documentation wiki it says “page not found”.
I would appreciate some help. I have installed everything and I can’t post a comment, I don’t know how to fill the other part of the site with stuff like flickr etc…

It is fantastic theme, i like it, similar to ajax enabled tab, why dont you make the categories or navigiation of page browsing all so on the same way, i will install, after your final release, i am waiting for you to finish this .

nice theme, ive installed it but i do not have a clue as to how i can customize those nifty boxes not the css but how to place options within it. and how do get to change the display of posts. say i want the first post to be displayed in full and remaining posts to have the “more” link. also the nifty box must appear only for the newest post not for all of them . how can i do these?

I installed the theme and like it but something funny is going on. After a few days the theme is switched to default. I set it back and then after a few more days default is backup again…any ideas? is it the stable hairthing :)

I can’t add a statistics plugin, nor can I add any other plugins. I know I’m doing it correctly because I am able to take akismet on and off of the theme. However, when I add the plugin files to the site they do not show up for activation. If anyone could help I would be very appreciative.
