Unique Lanyards

on Jul 4, 2011 in Lanyards

Some of the most interesting lanyards to find and collect are those used by shoe and outerwear manufacturers to be placed on zippers and shoelaces of the main name products they sell. This is a great advertising idea because many company logos or names can be printed on a small metal tag and fixed to the product. It is a way of getting a product and brand name easily identified name into the public by creating a need and getting people involved.

USB computer chip lanyards are very popular in trade shows across the nation, such as the big electronic on held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The companies that make these chip encoded lanyards are able to make the lanyards easy to use with information that is downloaded when needed for attending classes or a demonstration of a new product or the endorsement of an revamped one. Many companies have a special color or name imprinted or embossed on the lanyard to make sure they also get some free advertising.

One of the newer items on lanyards is similar to a collectible pin, but this is a slider that serves the purpose of holding the sides of the lanyard together so they are easily adjusted and the other is for the purpose of having a logo or name on the slider.  Different shapes and designs of these pins or pulls that are found on high-end lanyards sold with clothing are also collectible. Crafters who are good at braiding will be able to make great lanyards that others will love to have as gifts or to sell.

There have been some lanyards made with patterns woven in the material that have a special significance to the wearer or are a part of their culture, such as the Scottish plaids denoting the different clans and members of organizations such as Elks, Eagles or the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Lanyards for the environmentally conscious person can be made from bamboo by products or organic materials.

One of the increasing uses of lanyards is to keep pocketknives, neck lance knifes and other survival type gear close to you and easily identified. Survivalists use lanyards to hold their flint fire striker in the lanyard that also is attached to their knife. These round fire strikers are a perfect size to build a home made round woven lanyard. The lanyard has a solid core that can be removed if needed. Fishermen, hunters and hikers should carry a lanyard with one of these fire strikers inside with them in case they get lost.

Lanyards can be used for many different things but the most important is to remember they keep small items close at hand ready to be used and prevent them from becoming lost. The highly polished lanyard can enhance a normal key ring or pair of reading glasses; the use and item depend on you as you show off the new accessory to your wardrobe.
