Microsoft hopes to show its Cloud Power

Microsoft is touting its “cloud power” in a new advertising campaign which includes billboards, such as these that currently line Seattle’s Sea-Tac airport. (Credit: Josh Lowensohn/CNET) REDMOND, Wash.–After spending the last several months touting itself as “All In” when it comes to cloud computing, Microsoft now plans to spend several hundred million dollars to convince businesses what that actually means. The software maker is launching its largest-ever ad campaign targeting businesses, touting “Cloud Power” and its benefits over traditional server-based computing.

Microsoft promotes three to division president

Microsoft has chosen to fill its executive vacancies from within, elevating three current business unit heads to president of their respective divisions. In a statement this morning, the company said it is naming Kurt DelBene to head the Microsoft Office Division, Don Mattrick to head the Interactive Entertainment Business, and Andy Lees to head the Mobile Communications Business, effectively leaving things as they have been following the departure of Stephen Elop (who was named Nokia CEO last month ) and the announced retirement of Robbie Bach

Windows Phone 7 won’t support tethering

Microsoft’s forthcoming Windows Phone 7 won’t act as a hot spot, after all. A Microsoft official recently suggested that it would be up to cellular carriers whether to allow so-called “tethering,” but Microsoft confirmed to CNET on Friday that Windows Phone 7 doesn’t support the feature at all
